Choosing the correct reed strength makes playing easier and improves tone, control, and consistency.

Softer Reeds (1.5 – 2.0)

  • Easier to blow
  • Quick response
  • Brighter sound
  • Less control at high dynamics

Medium Reeds (2.0 – 3.0)

  • Balanced tone and resistance
  • Most commonly used range
  • Good for all styles

Harder Reeds (3.0 – 4.0+)

  • More resistance
  • Darker, fuller tone
  • Greater control and projection
  • Requires stronger embouchure
